She Knows Why the Caged Bird Sings…
Amsterdam fashion designer Karim Adduchi has paid tribute to his Berber heritage by adapting traditional carpets into frayed and patterned garments…naming the collection, She Knows Why the Caged Bird Sings. Inspirational. Move over, Scarlett O’Hara! Hello, Karim Adduchi…
The Perfect Red…
…is this your bag? The perfect red by Alexander McQueen.
Time Out…
…let’s hop over to Fire Island, NY, where an ordinary 1960’s a-frame has been renovated by Bromley Caldari Architects. The A-Frame Rethink has been transformed from underwhelming and decrepit to a “cathedral that is light-filled with the color of sky and water, complex but simple, where the pieces lock into place like a Rubik’s cube.”
Wide Open…
…largest glass pivoting doors in the world: Jansen VISS façade swing-door system.
Checking In at the Office…
…and it is a pleasure to do so, indeed. Vladimir Radutny Architects was asked to renovate the office for Ranquist Development Group in Chicago. And the result? A winning and raw space, boasting industrial details and a glass-walled garage to showcase the owner’s limited edition Porsche…sweet!
Museum Monday…
…A spate of major new museum openings boasting top notch architecture and serious modern and contemporary art exhibitions make this summer’s cultural landscape one worth traveling for.
Breath of Fresh Air…
…during a long Chicago winter, it can seem as if the four walls of your home are closing in on you. No chance of this happening near Stockholm, Sweden, where Arrhov Frick Arkitektkontor designed Six Walls House. The architects gave the homeowner two extra walls plus floor to ceiling windows, which allow an abundance of light even on the gloomiest of days. The home’s location gives generous views of the sea and surrounding nature…giving a feeling of serenity…a breath of fresh air…
The End…
the be-all and end-all…tastefully designed master bath, 25th Street Residence, by Geremia Designs.
Made to Be Moved…
…I like the idea of moving walls in a space…but transporting an entire building is truly the height of flexibility in the choice of preferred location.
Made to be Moved is a minimalist building located in Nordhavnen, Denmark, designed by Arcgency. Worn-out shipping containers are stacked three stories high on a series of minimal site impact pillars. The container is a super optimized product, refined to be cost-effective, strong and durable. It fits international transportations standards and can be shipped and set up anywhere, enabling the architects to practice direct reuse. If a new building component with the same specifications were to be designed, it would be both expensive and time consuming.
Iridescent…
…designed as a living organism in constant interaction with its environment…Butterfly House by Hong Kong based design team, Davidclovers. The guest house is conceived as a preternatural, brilliantly colored form that oscillates between sheer camouflage and sparkling beacon with the northeastern Pennsylvanian woods.
Boreal Halo…
…The Muzeul National de Arta Contemporana, located in Bucharest, Romania, is the temporary home of the Boreal Halo by French artist Vincent Leroy. Inside the Grand Palace, the Boreal Halo casts a mesmerizing, hypnotic trance over the room. The mass of the object creates an interesting contrast to the stark solidity of the marble floors, striking a tense balance that gives the structure a sense of lightness.
