Jonathan, Simon, and Liberace…
…welcome to the Shelter Island summer home of Jonathan Adler, Simon Doonan, and their sweet norfolk terrier, Liberace. One of my secret indulgences is to spend time on a gloomy day in Jonathan Adler’s store at 676 North Wabash Avenue in Chicago. Guaranteed instant sunshine…
Lincoln…
…I went to the theater and saw Lincoln the other night. I’m rooting for Daniel Day Lewis to win the Oscar for best actor. Enjoy watching the Oscars tonight…

A World in Its Own Right…
Latticed bridge trusses and hazy streetscapes adorn the garments of fashion designer Mary Katrantzou‘s Autumn Winter 2013 collection shown during London Fashion Week. Foggy streets and landscapes printed onto satin and silk are inspired by the black-and-white photography of Edward Steichen, Clarence White and Alfred Stieglitz.
Time Out…
…no further explanation needed…will you join me?

Verdi’s Attila at the Metropolitan Opera, New York, is a collaboration of creative talent. Conducted by Riccardo Muti and directed by Pierre Audi, it features costume designs by Miuccia Prada and sets by Pritzker Prize-winning architects Herzog & de Meuron.
Pharmacy…
…surprise! I’m not referring to our corner store where we go to get cold medicine…I’m talking about a restaurant and bar in Notting Hill Gate by MRJ Rundell + Associates…take a look at the ‘aspirin’ bar…quite fun.
Next Year…
…I’m going to bookmark this page in time for Valentine’s Day next year…so sweet and charming…cheers to your valentine and save the world in one swoop…
Dutch designer Pepe Heykoop has created a paper cover to turn any glass jar or bottle into a faceted vase, sold to help impoverished women in Mumbai make a living.
Each Paper Vase is handmade by the women of the Pardeshi community in Mumbai’s red light district. The workshop was founded by Pepe Heykoop and the Tiny Miracles Foundation, which was set up by his cousin. “The ultimate goal is to pull this 700-person community out of poverty by providing healthcare, education and jobs within eight years.”
