Fairy Tale…
…Jikka, meaning ‘parents’ home’ in Japanese, is the brain-child of lifelong welfare workers, Nobuko Suma and Sachiko Fujioka. Together, they commissioned Nobuko’s son, the Tokyo-based architect Issei Suma, to build them a multi-purpose home, with architectural quirks to help them live out their days in style. Viewed from afar, Jikka appears to be a cluster of magical, fairy tale dwarf homes. But in reality, the hilltop teepees are actually a private retirement home. Jikka…down to earth and back to nature…
Office Check-In…
…let’s follow the flow of metal that brightens and adds interest to an otherwise banal work space. The creative genius of L&M Design Lab for their Shanghai Office.
‘Hygge’ is BIG’s A45…
…hygge is a Danish word that describes a mood of coziness or comfort, with feelings of wellness and happiness. Who doesn’t want some of that? As Chicago’s trees take on their fall color, BIG‘s tiny cabin beckons a city dweller to the northern woods.
The tiny house is similar to an a-frame cabin. However, A45 has a square base with a twisting roofline, which provides a new take on the traditional style. The prefabricated cabin is assembled on site and includes an open-plan living and sleeping area with small cooktop, bath and a lofted area.
