NUDE: a photo series by Shinichi Maruyama…
Japanese photographer Shinichi Maruyama has created a stunning series of photos entitled Nude. Each swirling image was created by combining 10,000 distinct photos of a naked model dancing. The resultant swirling compositions at once envelop and obscure the dancers’ forms, while documenting the history of their dance.

Starlight…
… Starlight is a modest sculptural installation that was installed at Burning Man 2012 and other festivals. Seven twelve foot diameter plywood stars were placed in the Black Rock desert mapping out the constellation Orion, creating a sense of place and a “heaven on earth” effect. Starlight was a do it yourself project designed by a few but constructed and funded by many. The stars were designed to look good day and night and to appeal from great distances in order to draw in the curious. Repetition, scale and tension are used to combat the overwhelming scale of the Black Rock desert while getting the most from a budget of roughly $5,000. WHEN I heard the learn’d astronomer; When the proofs, the figures, were ranged in columns before me; When I was shown the charts and the diagrams, to add, divide, and measure them; When I, sitting, heard the astronomer, where he lectured with much applause in the lecture-room, How soon, unaccountable, I became tired and sick; Till rising and gliding out, I wander’d off by myself, In the mystical moist night-air, and from time to time, Look’d up in perfect silence at the stars. - Walt Whitman

The Edge Effect
While hiking and driving the areas in California’s Joshua Tree National Park, where the low Sonoran desert meets the high Mojave desert, Daniel Kukla caught glimpses of the border space created by the meeting of distinct ecosystems in juxtaposition, referred to as the Edge Effect in the ecological sciences. To document this unique confluence of terrains, Daniel hiked out a large mirror and painter’s easel into the wilderness and captured opposing elements within the environment. Using a single visual plane, this series of images unifies the play of temporal phenomena, contrasts of color and texture, and natural interactions of the environment itself.
